Zodiac Killer, An Unsolved Case

America’s most dreaded killer remains elusive even today. It is still not known who this Zodiac Killer was. Though the police suspected it to be Arthur Leigh Allen, there was no concrete evidence to support the claim. Since he has been an enigma to the cops, little is known about his early days and what prompted him to become a serial killer. Till date the case is open and world’s top investigators are foxed by the complexity of this case. Allen was the only one who came close to the killer’s description. But his DNA doesn’t match with any of the samples found at the site of crime. The San Francisco Police Department marked this case closed in April 2004 but has reopened it now.

The Zodiac Killers modus operandi is intriguing, as he wrote letters to media in code language about the killings ,sometimes even before hand . In fact, once he even called up the police and accepted responsibility for killing two youngsters in a parking lot. The call was traced to a telephone booth near the Vallejo Police Department. In 1968, the Zodiac killings came to light with the murder of Betty Lou Jensen and David Faraday on December 20, 1968 in California City. He shot them point blank on their head. A neighborhood lady Stella Borges found the bodies and alerted the police. But no leads were found. This was followed by a spate of killings which baffled the cops and made them helpless. No conclusive evidence was found in any of the killings.

In 1969, letters were received by the Vallejo Times-Herald, the San Francisco Chronicle, and the San Francisco Examiner. The letters consisted of one third of a cryptogram with a total of 408 characters which he claimed contained his identity. He demanded they be printed on the front page or he would go on a rampage and kill a dozen people that weekend. Though the threatened murders did not happen, all three parts were eventually published.

The cryptogram was cracked in August 1969 by Donald and Betty Harden. Though the message was unraveled it didn’t contain the killer’s identity. According to the excerpts published the letter was as follows:

I LIKE KILLING PEOPLE BECAUSE IT IS SO MUCH FUN IT IS MORE FUN THAN KILLING WILD GAME IN THE FORREST, BECAUSE MAN IS THE MOST DANGEROUS ANAMAL OF ALL TO KILL. SOMETHING GIVES ME THE MOST THRILLING EXPERENCE - IT IS EVEN BETTER THAN GETTING YOUR ROCKS OFF WITH A GIRL THE BEST PART OF IT IS THAT WHEN I DIE I WILL BE REBORN IN PARADICE AND ALL THE GIRLS I HAVE KILLED WILL BECOME MY SLAVES I WILL NOT GIVE YOU MY NAME BECAUSE YOU WILL TRY TO SLOI DOWN OR STOP MY COLLECTING OF SLAVES FOR MY AFTERLIFE EBEORIETEMETHHPITI.

The last 18 characters couldn’t be unraveled.

The killings continued and flummoxed everyone in Bay Area. The Zodiac Killer also dutifully reported every crime to the police. Though fresh evidence could be collected, they could never be matched with anybody. Letters continued to come to media and so did the killings. There were around 49 murders linked to zodiac killer out of which 15 were occult killings in Northern California.

Theories abound in Zodiac Killers case but no conclusive evidence was ever found. Many films were inspired by this and Hollywood had a fascination for making movies and TV serials on zodiac killer. The killer always signed his notes with " = 12, SFPD = 0".

Though police investigated over 2,500 potential suspects, the case is still unsolved. This is one of the greatest unsolved serial killer mysteries of all times in American crime history.

You need an internet connection,an IRC client (mirc),an FTP client (Smart FTP)and WinRAR (rarsoft).Then you need to acquire an All-in-One exploit package. Where do you get this? Launch your IRC client of choice or connect to EFNet, type /j #xbins and then type /msg xbins !list You will receive a private message from Xbins who will give you the location and login to the FTP. Once connected to the FTP, navigate to /XBOX/exploits/_Packages/Softmod Installer Deluxe/ and download the Softmod.Installer.Deluxe.v2.0.Xbox-Hq.rar file.

For this tutorial, we'll be using the Splinter Cell exploit.All exploits are pretty much the same. Extract the two .zip files (SID.Splinter.Cell.v2.0.Xbox-Hq.zip and SID.Splinter.Cell.v2.0.NTSC.Xbox-Hq.zip) from the RAR archive.

If you're using Action Replay, drag both zip files to your memory card.Then copy both gamesaves from the memory card to your unmodded Xbox.

If you have access to a modified Xbox, you can extract both zip files and FTP them over to the modified Xbox console, then using the MS Dash, copy both the Linux Installer and Splinter Cell gamesaves to the memory card, switch consoles and copy the gamesaves from the memory card to the unmodded Xbox.

There should be two gamesaves. One should be 4 blocks (a linker file),the other 489 (the installer file).
Start up Splinter Cell, select Start Game and press A.If you have never played Splinter Cell before,there should only be one available gamesave: Linux. Select it and press A.

On the next screen, select Check Points (selecting Levels will cause the Xbox to freeze).The screen should turn black and approximately 10 seconds later, you will be greeted with an UnleashX intro screen and then an UnleashX control panel. Select the option, Create MS Backup, which will backup the entire contents of your C:\ to E:\backup\MS

Now select the option, Create Mod Backup, which will backup your EEPROM. If you do not backup your c:\ and your EEPROM, recovering your console if something does go wrong will be incredibly hard and even impossible.Once you have backed up both the C:\ and EEPROM, select Install Softmod. This will mod your system. DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR SYSTEM. Let the mod install,when it finishes you'll notice that the installation prompt and status bar have disappeared. Because of the limited capacities of standard Microsoft memory cards, only the Evolution X and Unleash X dashboards have been included in this package. I prefer Evolution X,so select Install Evox and let Evolution X install.

Once you have installed Evolution X, power off your Xbox and turn it back on. Make sure to eject your Splinter Cell game. All The Different Weather Types

We know that if the atmosphere did not exist, the earth would go without weather. Imagine for a moment for argument's sake that the earth has an atmosphere indeed, as it is today, though the sun is absent. Absence of sun would mean absence of weather and that is not only because a frozen solid form the atmosphere will take. Actually the interaction between heat of the sun and our atmosphere builds air masses, while circulation patterns appear due to that. Pressure differences motivate air movements and wind is the end result of the same.

As in case of other materials, the air in the earth's atmosphere is built of molecules that move about incessantly. Greater is the air pressure where denser concentration of molecules is found. Since air molecules are governed by gravity, the greatest air pressure is found nearest the earth's surface and with altitude that decreases. The atmospheric pressure at sea level is about 14 and a half pounds on each square inch about which are normally not much conscious.

If air pressure is measured in hectopascals or millibars, normal air pressure ranges from 980 to 1040 hectopascals while on local conditions that is very much dependent.

At different speeds these molecules incessantly move while the speeds depend on temperature, lower the temperature slower is the peed and for higher temperature faster is the speed. The molecules speed up as a mass of air is heated and that results in expansion of air. The density of the molecules decreases as expansion takes place and thereby the air mass becomes lighter. The air mass that has become lighter starts rising now. Convection is the term for the entire process.

All through the world convection is going on constantly in the atmosphere. However neither regular nor uniform is the process. It depends on many local factors whether convection will take place, and if it does at all, how much that will be.

As air rises it cools. Therefore in due course the rising warm air masses get cooled down and to the ground that its starts sinking back. With the rise of air, low pressure results. High pressure is the result where it is sinking. As equilibrium is the goal of atmosphere, air moves from high pressure areas to low pressure ones. Wind is this very movement of air. More the difference between the high pressure and low pressure zones, more forceful winds would be the result.

An elliptical orbit the earth or the third rock from the sun follows and to complete that the time it takes is one year. The time to complete one orbit marks stretch of the earth's year. Since elliptical is the earth's orbit, in certain parts of the year it really comes closer to the sun. However that does not cause seasons even though more solar heat the earth receives then.

The earth's movement is not limited to its travel through space in its own orbit, but it spins also on its axis like a top. In every 24-hour one spin it completes. Alteration between day and night is caused by the earth's rotation. Weather conditions differ between day and night as is reflected in high and low temperatures and the effect of that is felt on weather patterns too.

On its axis the planet earth is tilted about 23 degrees and that causes really the change of seasons. Due to tilting different parts of the earth come closer to the sun as around the sun the earth travels in its orbit. Therefore during certain parts of the year different parts of the earth receive different amounts of heat.

In December the Northern Hemisphere receives less light since the North Pole is tilted away from the sun then. Thus the days become shorter there while the temperatures go down.

But as the earth moves on its orbit, North Pole comes close to the sun due to earth's tilt. Till June 21 it continues to come closer to the sun and then the summer reaches its maximum. On that very day the sun is just above the Tropic of Cancer. Around the sun the earth continues to move until December 21 when the winter reaches its peak and the cycle is complete.

Just opposite are the seasons in the Southern Hemisphere even though the same cycle it experiences. In December the Southern Hemisphere is the closest to the sun and therefore it is summertime there. Quite logically June21 is the date marked for winter peak in the Southern Hemisphere.

The middle and high latitudes only, i.e., above 23.5 degrees north and below 23.5 degrees south, enjoy four seasons precisely. Normally for the tropics only wet and dry seasons are the two seasonal variations.

• The designations attracted more clients,

• Many of our firm’s top insurance agents held designations,

• Many of the top agents held no designations, and

• One of the most successful agents the firm ever had held no designations, continuously topped everyone in sales each year, and was so successful that he had his own private secretary, who screened all his calls, because he was so busy with clients who just seemed to gravitate toward him.

My point is this — A designation indicates that the realtors have completed some extensive study on their own time. It means they should be well versed in that particular area of real estate. It does not mean that they are more knowledgeable than a realtor without the designation, because the latter may have learned much more through actual experience than the person holding the designation.

So, when looking to hire a realtor, keep a good perspective on designations. Opt to do a good interview with the realtor, rather than simply accepting he/she is the best because of a designation.

Are We Still Children Playing In Pandora’s Box?

Barbara: Hazel, in managing the decline of the industrial society, what do you see us managing ourselves toward?

Hazel: Basically toward what I'm calling the emerging countereconomy, which is, for example, these fifty million Americans who are already participating in some form of cooperative enterprise. All it is is a reconfiguration of the modes of production and distribution. It's just like ancient Rome, where all of the transportation lines got too extenuated.

It doesn't mean to say that people will no longer be provisioned, and that there will be no more innovation. All that will still go on. It's just that the palaces will crumble, and the overgrowth of centralized structures will devolve. What's so interesting is that the most irrelevant places in the world right now are Washington, London, Paris, New York, Canberra. The nation-state control level is being superceded on the global level, and pulled back to reality on the local level.

Jean: There are no great central places anymore!

Barbara: You could see it happening with Jimmy Carter, who looked very powerful until he got to Washington. And suddenly, it's almost as though the complexities are diminishing him. He looks less and less powerful as he settles into the White House. I call it the "principle of rising impotence." The higher you go, the more structured-in you become. You are forced to maintain the existing system rather than evolve it.

Hazel: Because you are climbing into a dead coral reef! The life has migrated out of it.

Jean: Carter's great claim to the presidency was that he did not know the coral reef, and that he would bring fresh life.

Barbara: But he's ended up appointing denizens of the old coral reef to his cabinet!

Hazel: There is such a basic contradiction there. And then there was the rationalization that, "Well, we'll have all the new voices in the undersecretaryships." I've been asked several times what role I would play. They wanted me to be a member of the transition group and all of that. I've been saying an emphatic no! I'm not going to climb onto the dead coral reef and tie my hands behind my back.

Basically, the question is: Can it slide down gracefully without hurting too many? But it isn't really a decline! The life is all going somewhere else; it's migrating.

Jean: You know, every era has its dominant forms. We're moving now from Homo-politicus and Homo-economicus to .. . where? Maybe it's back to Homo-religiosis in the root meaning — "religio," meaning "to bind."

Barbara: Union; to bind back together.

Jean: Back together, and back into the cosmos.

Hazel: Again, it's this molecule-making image that had been forgotten when we got into the all-looking-at-the-dictator mode. Now we're finally going back to learning how to nucleate, to self-organize.

Jean: The power is moving to the countermodels.

Hazel: It certainly isn't Washington, which is inhabited largely by Neanderthals.

Jean: No, not even Neanderthals! If they were Neanderthals they would at least be sensitive, but they're not; they're pterodactyls! But smart pterodactyls!

Hazel: Oh yes, they're not dumb.

Jean: But are they really as bad as the impression I got from my experience down there?

Hazel: Well, maybe yours was pretty bad, but I think it's generally true.

Jean: Does that mean that to become a member of Congress is automatically to —

Hazel: Well, look at the experience you have to go through to become a member of Congress. You've got to lie; you've got to deny your inner nature; you've got to be infatuated with power.

Jean: The education of a brontosaurus!

Hazel: Richard Nixon was the manifestation of the process you have to go through in order to become president. The problem is that anyone with a reasonably evolved consciousness has to wonder if they can put themselves into a pterodactyl suit!

[laughter]

Hazel: The networking that's going on between social-change people right now .. . thank God the people in Washington don't know about it! There was a conference on networking in Canada recently that I was invited to, but I was very suspicious about it. It was a bunch of typical academic hucksters — I thought, with my orientation — and they were going to impale this phenomenon: networking! And they were going to map it, and they were going to give it form, and go to the National Science Foundation and get grants. The people who network were going to be guinea pigs; they were going to eavesdrop on the network. However, the beautiful thing about social-change networking is that they can't do that; all you have to do is regroup, change the name of the group, alter the telephone numbers, and go on as before. But they were going to intercept the chain of command, find out who the leaders are, find out the location where all of the subversive activity is going on .. . It's wonderful! They've got all the wrong images! Besides, there's really a subversive in every family: it's either the wife or the children. There is no chain of command; it's all autonomously self-actualizing human beings with the same image in their heads. It's self-organizing activity.

The metaphor that I think is important for the kind of culture that's emerging from this Logos is the metaphor of self-organization. We know that we're self-organizing systems. We know many instances of human culture that have been self-organizing, and that have had magnificently complex structures of behavior mediation and regulation, and that have been in perfect balance with their ecosystems. So we have all of those models of self-organization. All we don't know how to do — and maybe we never will — is to organize ourselves with this level of what Jean would call prosthetic types of technology. Not that we want to throw away the knowledge stock, or degrade it, but we do want to assert our own innate ability to self-organize, and to redress that imbalance.

One example of this is that we do want to restore the balance in regulating human behavior. If you have viable psychic structures of sanctions, regulations, and ways of mediating behavior, you don't need whips, guns, prisons, police forces, and all the rest of it.

Blockbuster Vs. Netflix

Maybe it’s just me, but I’m more old school when it comes to renting DVDs. I decided to give Netflix a try not too long ago, but I was kind of hesitant at first. The reason being is because when I want to watch a movie, I want to watch it now. I don’t want to have to wait a day or two twiddling my thumbs waiting for a movie to arrive in my mailbox that I’m itching to see.

To me, when it’s time for Blockbuster to take on Netflix in the Movie Rental ring, I think Blockbuster video delivers the knockout blow. The reason I favor Blockbuster so much more than Netflix is because when I see a commercial advertising the newest DVD release of a movie I just have to see, I got to run to Blockbuster video, grab me a copy, not worry about late fees and return it once I’m done viewing it.

Now I’m not dissing Netflix, because they do have a very cool premise to themselves. I like the fact that you get to keep the DVD for as long as you want, you just can’t get another DVD until you return the one you already have. And I like the plans they have for certain amount of DVDs to rent at a given time. But I’m just not too crazy about ‘mailing’ back a DVD after watching it, then waiting for them to receive the DVD before I can get another one.

With Blockbuster it’s so simple: You got a craving to watch a movie, you call up Blockbuster to see if it has a copy, and odds are it does as it has the largest selection of DVDs anywhere compared to other video store chains locally, you pick the movie up, you keep it for as long as you want without worrying about late fees. It’s the golden answer to my DVD viewing as far as I’m concerned.

So I give Blockbuster the nod when it compares to Netflix. Even though Netflix doesn’t sound half bad, nothing beats the local selection at my local Blockbuster. Netflix, go towel off, because you’re not bad at all, but when it comes to facing Blockbuster, to me, you don’t have a fighting chance.

Nada Used Car Prices, Edmunds Used Car Prices, And Kelly Blue Book Used Car Prices – Whose Prices Are Right?

The Internet has been touted as the greatest resource for the used car buyer. Prospective buyers can find trade-in, private party, and retail values in a heartbeat. The question to consider, however, is what Internet source is right? The three major sites: NADA, Edmunds, and Kelly Blue Book are clamoring to be the Trusted Authority on used car values. Yet price discrepancies are frequently in the $1000’s from site to site. Which web site, if any, is the most accurate source for the used car buyer?

To illustrate the discrepancies, here’s an everyday example: NADA may retail a 2003 SAAB 9-5 Linear at $15,996, Kelly Blue Book prices it at $17,456, and Edmunds prices it at $14,800. These are all retail values, assuming excellent or clean condition. $17,456 minus $14,800 is a $2,656 difference. That’s a huge price difference in the highly competitive used car market.

The retail values placed on many vehicles by these web sites can have even larger price differences - some as high as $4000 to $8000 dollars. These gigantic price fluctuations can leave a used car buyer spending $1000’s extra, depending on which guide he or she used. Moreover, private party and trade-in sale prices do not accurately account for vehicle condition, and less than 5% qualify as excellent.

Vehicle condition is a critical variable. An owner might think his trade-in is in stunning condition and thus worth X, based on his Internet research. An expert may know it needs $1000’s in repairs and reconditioning costs.

The answer to “whose prices are right” is that none of the big three web sites reflect used car prices accurately. Most often, the prices are too high on the retail side, questionable on the trade-in side, and confusing on the private side.

So what or who is the real authority? The answer is the Market! The market (i.e., the folks grinding it out everyday in the used car market place – sellers and buyers) reflect true market value. Web sites are guides only. The used car prices from these sources need to be measured against the reality of the market.

Here’s a scenario to illustrate the importance the market plays on used car values. In the Northeast, the banks rely on NADA, used car dealers prefer to use Kelly Blue Book, and used car buyers are turning more and more to Edmunds. Now the dealer will likely want to use the inflated (Excellent condition) Kelly Blue Book value. The buyer wants an unrealistic Edmunds price, and the bank wants to use an under-valued NADA price. In other words, the three primary people in the car buying process – the buyer, the seller, and the lender, are all on different pages. Each player wants the most advantageous price based on the part he or she is playing. The market is the only element that evens the playing field. The point here is to demonstrate that the market is the true source to determine a REAL and FAIR used car value.

In order to get a fair price, according to the market, a used car buyer should aim for the middle. Avoid the highest prices and be realistic and flexible about the lowest. Stay somewhere in the middle to get a fair deal.

If you want a great deal, follow the market closely. If buying from a retailer, eBay and auction prices don’t count, as these are wholesale venues. Check out Cars.com, AutoTrader.com, and some of the other Used Car Sources. See what the vehicle you want (including miles, equipment and accessories) is being advertised for. Again, shoot for the middle!

Use the popular Internet resources, but don’t follow them blindly. You may actually pay significantly more than market value.

Having said all this, this doesn’t mean that used car dealers are going to stop trying to low ball trade-in offers. And of course every dealer wants to sell its vehicles for a maximum. But remember, the same goes for car owners, but in reverse. They want the highest price for a trade and the lowest retail price on a vehicle.

When using Internet sources to determine a used car value, be sure to enter the correct information. This may sound elementary, but option packages, models, miles, color, equipment, engine, transmission, gear ratios…etc, can be confusing. Yet these are important variables that will affect prices dramatically. In short, the wrong information skews the numbers.

Finally, what really needs to be highlighted with NADA, Edmunds, and Kelly, as well as other Internet sources, is that they are GUIDES.
