XBOX 360
Admittedly the specs of the upcoming XBOX 360 are fabulous and enticing especially to those comparing the look of games on the older XBOX with current spec PC gaming platforms.

Aside from the raw specs of a 12x dual-layer DVD-ROM drive, an IBM CPU with three symmetrical cores each running at 3.2 GHz and a high definition capable graphics system from ATI, the XBOX 360 is also much smaller than its predecessor. Measuring only 3.3 x 12.2 x 10.2 and weighing in at 7.7 pounds, the XBOX 360 has a more living room friendly stature.

One of the most anticipated features is that of the ATI graphics capabilities for high definition output. For those with suitable displays the XBOX 360 will support 720p and 1080i and importantly, the games will take this into account also.

The DVD-ROM drive not only plays the game media but also allows the showing of non interlaced DVD movies. The new XBOX will save media and game information on separately sold detachable hard drives and flash memory units. The hard drive will also make the XBOX 360 backwardly compatible with some of the older XBOX library.

XBOX 360 uses a new button layout for its controllers. The black and white buttons of the first XBOX controllers have been replaced with new shoulder buttons placed above the left and right triggers. The controllers are now wireless and the XBOX 360 can accept up to four of them or three via USB 2.0 ports.

Without networking the XBOX 360 would be a dead duck. An Ethernet port allows connectivity to the new XBOX Live Silver. The included service lets anyone create a Gamertag and gamer card to express your online identity, chat live with voice chat, and connect to the XBOX Live Marketplace to buy expansions, maps, and other digital goodies for your games.

Considering the specs and possibility of 20 launch titles including Perfect Dark Zero and Project Gotham Racing 3, it seems the XBOX 360 will be a must buy. Before you do however, take a look at the Playstation 3. Or just get both of them!

Nintendo Wii
Any hard core gamers knows that many of the best games - or at least the most unique games, come right out of Japan. Most of these games never see the light of day in the United States or Europe and gamers are left wanting and drooling for games they'll never have the chance to play. At least that was the case with the Gamecube and now also with the Nintendo Wii. Then along came a little disc called the Freeloader, that allowed any Gamecube to play any Japanese game with ease, with no mod chip required and no need to open your console.

Why do I mention Gamecube and Wii playing import games? Simply because the Nintendo Wii is also compatible with every single Gamecube Game, including the FreeLoader disc. Because the Nintendo Wii can boot Gamecube Discs / games, you can also load the Freeloader and finally take advantage of all of the great Import games on the market. The Nintendo Wii Freeloader is a disc, that allows any Wii owner to play import Gamecube games without a mod chip. As you may have guessed, the Freeloader was not actually manufactured for the Nintendo Wii, but was instead a product that has been out for several years (with various updates) for the Nintendo Gamecube. Since the Wii can play Gamecube games and is backwards compatible, it will also load the FreeLoader on any Wii console allowing you to play any region Gamecube game with ease.

Now, if this were just any kind of disc, I wouldn't write a review on it. And often times, when I talk about import games, people ask me why I would want to play games that are all in Japanese and can't be played anyway. Or ask me what the big deal is with these games from Japan. The fact of the matter is, over 60% of Japanese import games can be played with no problem. I'm a big fan or racing games and some of the BEST racing games for Gamecube have only been released in Japan. The same would go for first person shooters. But more than that, some of the games are just so very unique, so well designed, that you must try them. You'll immediately become an import game fan once you do.

Regardless of the genre of games you like. By being able to play import games, you're actually expanding your software library, or at least the available selection by thousands of additional games. Many of these games you won't hear about at your local Blockbuster, or in magazine. But online review sites like IGN.com or GameSpot.com have entire sections devoted to import games and import gaming, because there are a tremendous amount of great games available.

This brings us back to the Freeloader. The Freeloader was developed by Datel as a means to cut out the need for installing a mod chip in your Gamecube console to have access, and the ability to play these games. Before the Freeloader, you would need to install a Gamecube Mod Chip like the Xeno Gamecube or the Viper Gamecube chip to play your import and personally backed up games. While the Freeloader won't let you play backup games, it will effortlessly allow you to play Import games from any region on any Gamecube.

I want to also say that this is NOT an article to promote the Freeloader as the next best thing since sliced The Legend Of Zelda for the Gamecube or Nintendo Wii. If you're not into Japanese games, or import games in general, and have no interest in them, then the Freeloader is not for you. It doesn't offer any extras or advantages for any Nintendo Wii or Gamecube owner who is happy to just play the offering of games available in their own country. Its sole purpose is to allow gamers like myself, and tens of thousands of others, to enable the playing of Import games. While I am stressing just Japanese games in this article as they are my own personal favorite. European gamers can also play the latest games released only in the USA on their PAL Gamecube or Nintendo Wii systems as well. Gamecube import games are not just from Japan. If you're a fan or Rally racing games, many of the best games in that genre are released in the UK and Europe.

Just how do you use the Gamecube Freeloader on the Nintendo Wii? First of all, think of it as a Nintendo Wii Freeloader. Insert the disc into your Nintendo Wii just as you would your Gamecube, and then select it from your Wii Dashboard. It'll load up, and you'll be greeted by the Freeloader main menu, where you'll have several selections. While it isn't loaded with features that'll blow you away - that is exactly the reason it's so easy to use. I suppose there aren't really a slew of features you could pack in to software that is intended to do just one thing - play import video games. We can thank the simplicity and ease of use due to the few options it has.

The Freeloader is easy to use, both on the Gamecube and the Nintendo Wii console. You simply put the disc in the Gamecube or your Nintendo Wii, wait for it to load and then pick the map representing the region you want to play. You'll then have to eject the disc from your Nintendo Wii, or open the Gamecube lid, and take out the Freeloader, put in the game you want to play and it will just load for you. It couldn't get any easier really.

In closing, the Freeloader for the Gamecube or Nintendo Wii is meant to do one thing, and one thing only. It does it with ease and work perfectly each and every time. It's not intended to do anything else. Comparing it to other software or add ons for either the Gamecube or the Nintendo Wii would be pointless. If you want to start getting the latest import games without having to wait until the hit the local market - if they ever do at all, then the Freeloader is the easiest and cheapest way to get you started.

Sony PSP
The ultimate handheld multimedia machine is what I call Sony’s latest gaming console. It is the best thing Sony has ever come up with so far. You can do almost anything with it!

Officially marketed as a gaming console, there is much more to it than that. For one thing, you can download your favorite music files onto the memory stick and voila, you have a portable music player! It also makes use of a new storage device called the UMD. It looks like a CD but is much smaller. Aside from games, you can get music videos and movies. With its wide high resolution screen, you can now watch your favorite movies anywhere, anytime you want to. If you are a high tech bookworm like me, then you will love the PSP even more. You can download e-books from the internet and put them on the PSP as JPEG files and read the latest novels on the go! Do you want to carry precious memories around anywhere you go? Convert your pictures into digital format and transfer them onto the memory stick. Now you can have hundreds of pictures at your fingertips!

The relatively large screen size makes for easy viewing of almost any format you use. During game play, the details will just astound you. Watching a movie is like watching it on DVD. You can adjust the contrast so as to suit your viewing preferences.

The memory stick’s storage capacity might give you a bit of a headache, though. There are large capacity memory sticks available but many of them are a bit pricey. However, I would say that it’s worth it.

It would be a good idea to purchase the headphones that come as an accessory. The built-in speakers of the PSP can be a bit disappointing. They just don’t give you the best experience when playing a game, watching a movie, or listening to music. The headphones give a much better sound quality.

Another drawback is that there doesn’t seem to be enough good games for the console yet. Compared to other handheld gaming consoles, the Sony PSP lags behind when it comes to the release of new games. The UMD disks are quite expensive as well.

Then again, I am sure you will be able to find something to do with your PSP while waiting for the next game or movie to come out.

Playstation 2
PlayStation 2 (PS2) is the console of the video game of Sony second, the successor in PlayStation and the predecessor in PlayStation 3.

Its development was announced in March 1999, and it was released the first time in Japan on March 4, 2000, in North America on October 26, 2000 and Europe on November 24, 2000. The PS2 belongs to the sixth era of generation, and became fastest game consoles of sale in the history, with more than 100 million units embarked for November 2005, beating the holder of the preceding record, PlayStation, by three years and nine months. Plays Principal article: List of PlayStation 2 plays The force of the mark of

PlayStation led to the third strong support of the system. Although the titles of launching for the PS2 were not very impressive in 2000, the season of holidays of the saw the 2001 release of several good-being sold and the plays as a critic acclaimed. These titles PS2 helped the PS2 to maintain and prolong its wire on the market of video game console, in spite of the increased competition of launchings of Microsoft Xbox and Nintendo GameCube. In several cases, Sony made deals of exclusiveness with editors in order to adapt its competitors.

The plays as a critic acclaimed on the machine include the large car of flight and the never-popular series of Final Fantasy (Enix square), the last two titles full speed out of metal, devil can cry and the devil can cry 3, the series of SSX, later the three titles of combat of ace, hearts of kingdom of the square collaboration of Enix/Disney, and marks of entertainment of computer of Sony of first-part such as Gran Turismo, SOCOM, series of rachet and rattling and Jak and Daxter, ICO, shade of the colossus, God of war and the champions of unexpected advantages of Everquest de Norrath and champions : To return to the arms.

The PS2 was also the house with many plays of music such as the last plays of GDR, and the newer hero of guitar of play of rock. Towards the end of March 2005, there were 5.277 titles PS2 released in the whole world, explaining cumulative sales of 824 million units. With the worms back-compatibility with the plays of PlayStation, the PS2 had a library released of software of 13.020 titles after 5 years and 27 days, although area-coding limits this completely severely, with 3.181 titles PS2 and 4.907 releases PS1 in Asia; 1.121 and 1.501 in Europe; and 975 and 1.335 in North America.0

Material PS2 can indicate the two compact disks and DVDs. It is towards the back compatible with older plays of PlayStation (PS1), takes account of the visual playback of DVD, and will play games PS2 in addition to discs compact-ROMANIAN or cheap DVD-ROM of high-capacity. The capacity to play of films of DVD allowed of the consumers more easily justify the price ticket relatively high of PS2 (in October 2000, the MSRP was $300) because it removed the need for buying an external player of DVD (indeed, it could say that the success of the format of DVD was partially due to the capacity of PS2 to play DVDs, because the format seemed to call upon the consumers more after the launching of the console).

The PS2 also supports charts of memory PS1 (for play PS1 only saves) and of the controllers as well. The controller duel of shock 2 of PS2 is primarily a shock PS1 improved duel; the similar buttons of face, shoulder and D-trimming replaced the numerical buttons of the original. When it was released, the PS2 had many avançés devices which were not present in other contemporary consoles of video game, including its ports 1394 of possibilities of DVD and expansion of USB and IEEE.

It was not up to 2001 late that Microsoft Xbox became the second console with the support of USB (1.1, with the Xbox-specific shape of casing) and DVD. (This assumes Nuon, a avançé coprocessor of graphs of player of DVD, is not considered a console.) even then, the accessory remotely separate required by Xbox to open the function of DVD and Sony could continue to launch the PS2 like able DVD out of the box. To note that compatibility with devices of USB depends device on support on USB on software on the aforementioned.

For example, the PS2 could not initialize an image of OIN of an ordering of instantaneous of USB - this problem was solved however with the edition of version 3.6 of the software of magic of exchange. On the one hand, Gran Turismo 4 can not save screenshots with a device of USB without any problem. Compatibility of software The support of the original plays of PlayStation was also an important point of sale for the PS2, leaving owners of an older levelling of system in PlayStation 2 and keeps their old software, and to give the new access of users to older plays until a larger library was developed for the new system.

Like additional allowance, the PS2 had the capacity to increase plays of PlayStation by accelerating the disc read time and/or textures to be added smoothing to improve of the graphs. While to smooth of texture was universally effective (though with odd effects where transparent of textures are employed), a faster reading of disc could make some plays does not charge or does not play correctly. A handle of titles of PlayStation (in particular solid speed out of metal: To fail special of missions) to run on the PS2 of the whole (the special missions does not identify the solid speed out of metal to the screen of exchange of discs, for example).

This problem seems to be rectified in the thin versions of the PS2, where the majority of the plays previously unplayable of PSone can now be played. It is a common false idea which exchanges it discs in a play (for example, because plays of multidisk or packages of expansion) is not possible on the PS2. The abnormal failure of the title above to its screen of exchange of discs could have given rise to this rumour.

The software for all the consoles of PlayStation contains one of four codes of area: for Japan and Asia: NTSC/J, North America: NTSC-U/C, Europe and Oceania: Stake, and China: NTSC/C.

Playstation 3
A new generation in video game technology will be delivered in November 2006.

PlayStation Magazine has disclosed new information about Sony's latest innovation--PlayStation 3 (PS3). The PS3 is being touted by some as a virtual home entertainment center cleverly disguised as mind blowing video game breakthrough.

Because the PS3 has online capabilities, users will have access to an online service center. They will be able to log into their "iTunes" account to download high description videos to their PS3 system. The PS3 is able to act as a location-free player for a PSP (portable playstation). This means that PSP users with broadband access can watch television shows and movies, transmitted from their PS3 to their PSP, wherever they are. Sources also report that the PS3 will act as a DVR (digital video recorder) with digital recording and storage capabilities. A HI DEF downloader will allow users to download music and videos, and the PS3's media center functionally operates 360 stations and is still growing.

Sony claims that PS3's online service will blow away the latest Xbox live. These features will allow users to watch live entertainment more clearly and directly. There are many new games currently in development, especially in the United States. According to Sony Industry, the final PS3 development kit will available sooner than anticipated.

Due to the anticipated customer demand, the forecasted cost of PlayStation 3 will reach up to $499 US, an amount that cements the strength of the manufacturers views.

Critiques for the PS3

Critics and supporters have provided these complaints and kudos for the yet-to-be-released PS3:

* Contrary to what is being promised, movie, music, and video downloads will not be formed on the PS3 in real time.

* The majority of technicians and developers are operationally studying games that are running well at 720p, and then unsealing it to 1080p. This is because they are finding it difficult to attain and complete better results at the true, high resolution of the 1080p process.

* The PS3 gives the impression of going one better than the Xbox 360, by providing more options all at once.

* Sony Inc. has plans to alter the concept controller design, changing it to an up-to-the-minute design that will retain the Dual Shock 2 lay out.

* Some critics and game machine experts say that the PS3 is not overly superior to the Xbox 360, as distant applications seem to be better only by a significant amount.

* Thirty-one games are already listed for distribution, including Devil May Cry 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo, Matrix Reloaded, Lair, Tekken and War hawk.

Some PlayStation and video game analysts consider Sony Inc. to take a "know-it-all" approach when speaking of the mere foretaste regarding the new PlayStation 3 project. However, video games experts have seen a quick preview of the games featured for PS3, and find the PS3 games have a good approaching sequel.

It appears that PS3 will come fully equipped with a nice hard drive, ensuring ample storage of photos, TV Shows and music directly into your PS3.

Of course, nothing in this world is constant. Several of the PS3 features can change in less than a month, so stay tuned and keep updated about PS3. Even with the high price tag the PS3 is sure to be a hot seller, especially being released right before the holiday season.
